WHAT IS OUR IN-SCHOOL CHAMBER MUSIC PROGRAM ABOUT?

Inspiration, Intuition, Imagination

Lily and me editedThe mission of our education programming is to create life-long creative thinkers, cultural advocates and appreciators of the arts through study, exposure and performance of chamber music, for youth and their communities regardless of their access.

Founded in 2012, PYCh (pronounced “pitch”) or Project Youth and Chamber Music is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit music education organization — currently known as Off the Hook Arts — that provides youth an opportunity to build musical and leadership skills through the study and performance of their instrument. Playing an instrument, requires a complicated combination of multiple fine motor, cross-brain activities and wordless communication. As seen by current neuroscience study, music is unique, more so than athletics or other arts, on the long lasting impact on brain development and aural skills.

Off the Hook Arts, through their education programs, provides support to music teachers in their programs at no cost, for students that need additional support. This support is sometimes for those who need more of a challenge — we supply coaches to work with small ensembles of volunteer students. Extra mentoring is provided for students that need help in continue to grow their music skills. We are there to fully support the needs of the music educators in the Poudre School District. Students are then able to better be leaders or full participants in their major ensembles.

We currently offer our volunteer services at Lincoln, Preston and Lesher Middle, Ridgeview Classical Charter, TR Paul Academy and Laurel Elementary Schools with the goal of always expanding our impact on as many directly served students as possible through string sectionals, working on advanced music for challenge, and in small ensembles if asked.
